May 8, 2021 @ 8:00 am - May 9, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

Tuesdays, May 4, May 11, May 18, all 6-7:30 PM Pacific time

In this trio of lectures, Professor Carlos Solomon will explore historical and contemporary issues driving immigration from Mexico and Central America. Beginning with the US Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 to the present, Salomon will unearth the various layers of immigrants, refugees, and migrants as they are displaced from their homelands in search of living wages, safety from violence, and natural disaster.

Salomon will illustrate how US involvement in Latin American governments and economies has led to worsening conditions for the region's poor. The lectures will also highlight how immigrants and their allies have organized in their communities by creating vast coalitions such as the Sanctuary Movement.
