Lifting 200 Voices in Celebration

October 13, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Some of Boston’s most soulful voices will sing at Old South Church from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, October 22, 2016, in a concert called: Lifting 200 Voices in Celebration. This event is a celebration of City Mission’s 200th anniversary. The concert will feature the Boston Children’s Chorus, The Halalisa Singers, Joyful Voices of Inspiration, and the Old South Church Gospel Choir. Donnell L. Patterson, Chair of the Gospel Music Department at the New England Conservatory, will be the festival choir director. In addition, there will be a mass choir of 200 people of individuals from all over greater Boston who will represent City Mission's 200 years of service as a voice for the voiceless. Founded in 1816 by Boston’s Old South Church and Park Street Church, City Mission today is an independent nonprofit organization focused on combatting poverty and preventing family homelessness. It is the oldest social justice agency in New England. Each year the organization touches the lives of more than 60,000 people in greater Boston through its direct service programs, volunteer and service learning opportunities, and homelessness prevention advocacy. Grounded in what is now the United Church of Christ, City Mission continues to offer a way for ordinary people to put their faith into action through its programs that seek to transform the lives of individuals and communities through empowerment, education, and engagement. The public is invited to attend this rousing, spiritually uplifting tribute celebrating the 200th Anniversary. Proceeds will benefit City Mission’s homelessness prevention programs.
