Music for Ground and Atmosphere

October 7, 2018

Free

Performances at 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM; Artist reception will follow the 5:00 PM performance.

Music for Ground and Atmosphere is a live, site-specific, instrumental improvisation conceived in response to Frederick Law Olmsted's landscape design and Fog x FLO, Fujiko Nakaya's fog installation throughout the Emerald Necklace park system. Cosgrove, a musician whose work for years has considered different human experiences of landscape and place, will draw on history, ecology, geography, and spaciality, to create a live soundtrack, which becomes as fluid, impermanent, and ethereal as the fog moving down Fog x Hill, the Arboretum's Fog x FLO site.

Ben Cosgrove is a traveling composer-performer whose music explores themes of landscape, place, and environment in North America. Cosgrove has performed in every U.S. state except Delaware and Hawaii, and held artist residencies and fellowships with numerous institutions including Harvard University and the National Park Service. Visit his website for more about his work.

Bring a blanket, a low chair, a picnic. Dress accordingly for the weather.

Street parking limited. Public transportation encouraged.

Free, no registration required.
