September Vigil in Support of Black Lives Matter

September 2, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The September Vigil in Support of Black Lives Matter will be held on Thursday evening, September 2, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm on the lawn of the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, 633 Centre Street, JP. In lieu of a speaker, we will have an extended standout following the call and response reading of the names of victims of racist violence.

In addition to the Vigil this month, there will be a lantern-making workshop at 4 PM, to remake the Black Lives Matter lanterns that light the lawn during the Vigils. Anyone 8 or older is welcome to join the workshop, no experience needed! The workshop is co-sponsored by Spontaneous Celebrations and the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, and will be held on the lawn of the church. Materials will be provided. If you would like to volunteer to help during the workshop, please call Hope at (617) 676-7006.

The Vigil in Support of Black Lives Matter in Jamaica Plain has taken place monthly since December 2015  because we recognize that systemic racism and injustice are woven into the fabric of our society with tragic results for people of color. We stand in witness for racial justice and human rights and against racist violence and white supremacy. Everyone is invited to join us.
