Teatro en el Parque/Theatre in the Park
July 30, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Free
Hyde Jackson Square Main Street will bring the play, Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding) by Federico García Lorca, to the outdoor stage at Mozart Park on the evening of July 30. The play will be presented in Spanish, with English supertitles (captions), by Escena Latina Teatro. Beginning at 6:30 pm, the community is invited to a one-time Cafe en el Parque to enjoy refreshing drinks and purchase a boxed dinner for delivery prior to the play which begins at 7:30 pm.
Based on a true story of love and betrayal, Blood Wedding is a powerful and innovative modern classic. Lorca wrote this poetic exploration of the conflict between individual desires and social conventions years after reading a newspaper account of a young bride. Lorca’s tale of ill-fated romance unfolds with the fire and power characteristic of his work. The force of love and primal desire battle the weight of history, themes that are particularly resonant given Lorca's own, tragically short life.
The event will be open to the public and free, although a donation to Hyde Jackson Square Main Street is encouraged. All funds raised will support Teatro en el Parque as well as additional programming that benefits the Hyde & Jackson Squares neighborhoods. In case of rain or threat of thunderstorms, the play will be held at the J.F. Kennedy Elementary School, 7 Bolster Street, 1 block from Mozart Park.
Hyde Jackson Square Main Street’s mission is to create a safe, visually vibrant, economically sound business district in Hyde/Jackson Square. Hyde Jackson Square Main Street is a tax-exempt 501(c)3, nonprofit organization.
