The Soil Sponge: Our Hope for Community and Climate Resilience

June 13, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Co-sponsored by Boston Food Forest Coalition

The living "soil sponge" is the fundamental infrastructure that makes life on land possible. Understanding its function allows us to address many of our major challenges with elegant efficiency. Come find out how we can help regenerate the soil sponge to grow landscapes that
cool the climate, provide ample food and clean water for all, while creating resilience to climate events such as flooding, drought, and wildfires. You will come away with practical, affordable strategies to improve resiliency on a large scale by collaborating with natural systems (and each other!), and learn the enormous human health and economic benefits of doing this work.
Didi Pershouse is the author of The Ecology of Care: Medicine, Agriculture, and the Quiet Power of Human and Microbial Communities, and Understanding Soil Health and Watershed Function. Her participatory workshops engage farmers and ranchers, students, policy makers, investors, and environmental groups in building multi-stakeholder working groups to improve soil health, public health, and climate resiliency. She was one of the five speakers at the United Nations-FAO World Soil Day in 2017.

Free & Open to All.
