Hundreds Celebrate Summer at Boston Police 3rd Annual Fishing Derby

Hundreds of children, parents, neighbors and friends all enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day of fun, at historic Jamaica Pond at the 3rd Annual Kids Catch & Release Fishing Derby on June 22. Officers and staff from Boston Police District E-13, and other units, all worked hard to organize and produce a free, family-focused day of fishing, games, food, music, prizes, special demonstrations and more. Very special thanks go out to the Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society, who have catered the food every year for the many guests. Help Send 30 Underprivileged Jamaica Plain Youths Go to Summer Camp

A local organization that works to empower residents and engage service providers to support Egleston Square is working with the local Boston Police Department to send 30 youths to a two-week summer camp. And they need your help! Tree of Life and the Boston Police Department's E-13 Community Service Youth Officers are hoping to raise $6,000 by May 31. That funding will provide food, transportation, and activities for 30 local youths -- which would double the amount of youths served by the camp last summer. Any donation is welcome, but here's a breakdown of specific activities and costs:

Sponsor a youth for a day, includes breakfast, lunch and an activity $30

Special ice cream trip for 30 campers $160

Needle Take Back Day and Drug Take Back Day are Thursday and Saturday

Got any needles hanging around that you need to get rid of? How about any prescription drugs? This week you can drop off both of those items at different sites around the city, and in Jamaica Plain. Thursday will be Boston's first-ever needle take back day, which was organized by At-Large City Councilor Annissa Essaibi-George, chair of the Committee on Homelessness, Mental Health, and Recovery and the Committee on Education. Numerous organizations have teamed up to initiate the day, including the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, Boston University School of Public Health Activist Lab, the Mayor’s Office of Recovery Services, the Boston Public Health Commission, and the Grayken Center for Addiction at the Boston Medical Center.

Jamaica Plain Man Arrested, Charged with Trafficking Fentanyl and Crystal Meth

Two Boston Police Drug Control Units teamed up as part of an ongoing investigation to arrest a Jamaica Plain man for allegedly trafficking fentanyl and crystal meth. Jorge Ramirez-Diaz, 46, was arrested and charged with trafficking Class A and B drugs on Jan. 31, according to bpdnews.com. Police allegedly recovered a large amount of fentanyl and crystal meth, as well as drug paraphernalia and $7,000. Jamaica Plain's BPD District E-13 and South Boston's BPD District C-6 executed a search warrant at 9:18 am as part of an ongoing investigation in the area of 53 Forest Hills Street in Jamaica Plain.

Boston Police One-Day Gun Buyback Program on Dec. 15

The Boston Police Department is holding a one-day gun buyback program on Saturday with no questions asked. For anyone who gives a gun they will receive a $100 gift card to Target. There will be six drop off locations across the city from 10 am to 4 pm. The Piece for Peace program will also be a day of remembrance for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that happened on Dec. 14, 2012.

Domestic Violence Cause of Bickford Street Murder-Suicide

Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office announced that the shooting death of a 23-year-old woman in her own Bickford Street home was the result of domestic violence on Nov. 19. On that evening Boston Police responded to a report of shots fired at 60 Bickford Street and found 23-year-old Lodimira DosSantos, shot and suffering from life-threatening injuries. She would later succumb to her injuries. Jose DosSantos, 32, who shared a last name with the victim, but were not married, was found dead from a gunshot wound, which was ruled self-inflicted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Two Injured in Targeted Shooting at Hyde Square Market

Two people were injured in a brazen midday shooting outside of a market in Hyde Square on Wednesday. The shooting took place around 2:45 pm by the Pimentel Market at 340 Centre St. Multiple witnesses have said they heard up to six shots ring out. Boston Police arrived and found an injured female, and at first it was believed she was shot, but later at the hospital doctors said they thought she was hit by glass, said Boston Police District E-13 Captain John Greland, who addressed the media after the shooting. "And then a little while later after, a male got himself to the hospital...and he was shot.

One Dead After Saturday Night Shooting on South Street

A shooting on South Street by a barbershop left one victim dead on Saturday night. Boston Police were called to the area of 140 South St. around 9:48 pm for a report of a shooting and found a male, believed to be in his 20s, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to bpdnews.com. The victim was transported to an area hospital and later succumbed from his injuries. The Professional Barber Shop is located at 140 South St., and Boston Police were going in and out of that location after the shooting.
