NSTAR Works to Restore Power in Green/Washington Area

It may be two hours until power is fully restored in the area near Green and Washington streets, an NSTAR worker said. A neighbor reported a manhole explosion on Tuesday morning. @02130News manhole cover explosion on lower part of Green St. By Wash.— ParksideNeighnorhood (@Parksidejp) October 7, 2014

NSTAR reports that an underground cable failed a little before 9:30 a.m. At first, about 400 customers lost power, said Rhiannon D'Angelo, media spokesperson for NSTAR. Within two hours, NSTAR returned power to about 300 of those customers, she said.

The Illustrated Man

Each weekday we post a random image from around the neighborhood. Here you see the hands of JP's Nic Tharpa Cartier as he searches tattoo designs at Café Bartlett Square. Thanks, Nic, for letting me take your photo! [selfie]

Gallery: Restaurant Patios of Jamaica Plain

Patio season is in full swing. You might think you know every outdoor restaurant space in the neighborhood, but click through — you may find some you didn't know about. My bet for best patio some of you might've missed is the nicely designed space behind Simpli Bar & Bites in Forest Hills. Of course it's hard to make a gallery like this comprehensive. Please add any omissions in the comment section or email me at and I'll add a photo.
