The welcome rain should taper off before First Thursday Artwalk begins at 5 p.m. Thursday along Centre/South. More than 40 locations will be hosting art of some kind. This is the final Centre/South Main Streets Artwalk of the 2014 season. It runs through 9 p.m. Thursday. Here are a few highlights:
Cash Mob: Each Artwalk, one of JP's local businesses is selected to be the beneficiary of a "cash mob."
The next-to-last First Thursday Artwalk of the season is here. And it's massive. Here's a map and guide to the festivities, which will draw thousands of people to central JP from 5-9 p.m. Thursday. The basic concept is that businesses all up and down the Centre/South corridor host art exhibits, concerts, food tastings, etc. It's a JP tradition that is organized by Centre/South Main Streets.
For our Photo of the Day on Thursdays, we highlight an image of old JP. The occupants of the storefronts along Centre Street are of course always changing. This undated photo from the Boston Public Library's collection shows how Centre and Seaverns, the block that now contains City Feed and (starting Thursday) Hatched, used to look. At the time this was taken, the JP Branch Library was in temporary lodgings on the second floor. [selfie]
