Goodbye Tandoor, Hello Tacos: Ghazal Gives Way to Mexican

A new Mexican restaurant from the team that runs Tres Gatos and Centre Street Cafe is planned for the longtime Ghazal space. That's the word from Tres Gatos co-owner David Doyle. Here's how he describes the concept:

"We know we want the restaurant to be a casual, affordable, family-friendly Mexican eatery featuring tacos, ceviches, and other traditional fare, made with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible." Doyle said the new spot would have a large selection of draft beer, plus wines from the U.S. and South America. Jamaica Plain News hasn't spoken with Ghazal's owners, but Doyle Tweeted that the owner is selling Ghazal to pursue another venture.

Centre Street Sanctuary Closes Its Doors

The restaurant anchoring Hyde Square's newest commercial building announced it closed as of Sunday. Centre Street Sanctuary had been open about two years. Owner Adam Rutstein broke the news to patrons via the 365 Centre St. restaurant's Facebook page:

Confirmed: Ban Chiang House Is Closed

Two nearby restaurateurs say Ban Chiang House, a Thai place in Centre/South, closed in the last week or so. The 707 Centre St. restaurant was closed Thursday at noon, at a time they should have been open for lunch. There's no answer when you call their number. Jamaica Plain News hasn't been able to reach the owner of the Ban Chiang House, but one nearby restaurant owner said he has seen her removing items from the property.
