FoMu Closing Jamaica Plain Store on September 18

FoMu announced on their Facebook page that they are closing their Jamaica Plain location on September 18. In a Facebook post, the owners said the store was hit hard by the pandemic, and was never able to recover. "When our lease came to term, it was a sad but sweet sign from the ice cream gods that we should bid farewell," said the Facebook post. FoMu's other locations in the South End, Fenway, Quincy Market, and the Seaport, will remain open. The post also suggested that if you'd like to see FoMu options around Jamaica Plain, to tag other retailers or restaurants, and that the owners will try to make it happen.

Yum! 23rd Annual Taste of Jamaica Plain on Nov. 15

Blue Nile, Chilacates, Café Beirut, FoMu, The Frogmore and Tres Gatos are just some of the participating businesses in the 23rd Annual Taste of Jamaica Plain on Nov. 15. This year's Taste of Jamaica Plain has a new location at Our Lady of Annunciation Church on the West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain border. In recent years the Taste of JP has been held at the Franklin Park Zoo. While the event is moving inside this year, it will still benefit a good neighborhood organization, Ecumenical Social Action Committee (ESAC), its senior home programs and youth opportunity collaborative.

Vegan Ice Cream Shop Seeks Take-out License

Here's a quick update on FoMu, the vegan ice cream shop at 617 Centre St. The owners have been petitioning the city for a take-out license. Tuesday morning at the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting at City Hall, the owners withdrew that application because the wrong address was listed in the original filing. They'll re-file for what co-owner Hin Tang said should be a formality. Tang also said take-out is a very small part of their business, so the delay doesn't hurt too much financially.
