Video: ‘Thriller’ Flash Mob with Boston Symphony Orchestra & Pops in Jamaica Plain

This Halloween in Jamaica Plain wasn't just costumed kids going from house-to-house asking for candy. This year, professional musicians and dancers made their way across JP creating flash mobs in an homage to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Jamaica Plain's Hoopla Productions collaborated with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops to produce several flash mobs for Halloween outside of Symphony Hall and in various locations in Jamaica Plain, said Hoopla's Mindy Fried to Jamaica Plain News. Hoopla Productions also organizes the popular Jamaica Plain Porchfest. Ali Pierre-Etienne choreographed the dancing, which was accompanied by the professional musicians, who also got into the zombie performance with makeup and some dance moves.

Recently, Hyde Jackson Square Main Street tweeted about Meatland needing a new owner. The current owner of Meatland had their lease expire and would like to sell the business. Meatland has already closed.

Crowdfunding: Hyde Jackson Square Main Street Wants Support for Café in Mozart Park

The Boston Main Streets Foundation and Hyde Jackson Square Main Street are working to create a welcoming, vibrant, social café in Mozart Park prior to each outdoor Movies in Mozart show in August and September. JP Porchfest is July 7th: Get Ready for 170 Performances on 90 Porches!

The 5th Annual Jamaica Plain Porchfest this Saturday will be more awesome than the previous four as it will include music, theater, dance, spoken word, storytelling, comedy, circus arts and a politicians' porch. "We have 90 generous porch hosts this year – that is, folks who offer their porches to performers. In some cases, people perform on their own porches, but they often welcome others," said Mindy Fried, co-organizer with Marie Ghitman and Eli Pabon. "And in many cases, porch hosts simply offer their porches to whomever we assign to their porches, of course taking into consideration their available space, and if they have any special requests." 15+ Surveillance Cameras Captured Alleged Murderer To and From Shootings

A Dorchester man accused of shooting and killing two innocent bystanders on May 4th was arraigned on Monday and held without bail. Wilvin Guity, 28, was charged with two counts of murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm at Roxbury Municipal Court on Monday. Guity was allegedly recorded minutes before the shooting via surveillance cameras exiting the rear passenger's door of a white Ford Fusion near Chestnut Avenue while wearing a gray hoodie and distinctive patterned sneakers, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Boston Police homicide detectives would later identify Guity, and he was captured on video walking into the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments by 277 Centre St., and open fire on a group of approximately 15 people in a Centre Street park, said prosecutors. He allegedly then ran back towards Chestnut Avenue and got back into the Ford Fusion.

Community Meeting to Discuss Redesign of Centre/South Streets on May 14

The Boston Transportation Department is holding a meeting on May 14 to discuss the redesigning of Centre and South streets streetscape. At the meeting the city would like to hear the community's "streetscape improvement priorities" for Jackson Square to Forest Hills along Centre and South streets. Boston Transportation Department officials will discuss the upcoming design process based on the Centre and South Streets Streetscape and Transportation Action Plain. This meeting is open to the public and will be on Monday, May 14 from 6 to 8 pm at the Curtis Hall Community Center (20 South St.).

Murder Victims Identified; 3 Arrested by Murder Scene, 2 on Gun Charges

The two men shot to death on Friday night in Jackson Square have been identified by Boston Police. The two victims were shot dead near 277 Centre St. by the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments around 9:41 pm on Friday night. The two victims have been identified as Christopher Joyce, 23, and Clayborn Blair, 58. Both men were from Boston, and neither lived at the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments, but had ties to the Boston Housing Authority run apartment complex, according to the Boston Globe.

Update: Two Shot Dead in Jackson Square

Two people were shot dead in the area of 277 Centre Street on Friday night in Jackson Square.  

Boston Police District E-13 officers were on patrol in the area when they heard gunshots fired around 9:41 pm, and quickly responded towards the scene, according to BPDnews.com. Upon arrival officers found two adult males suffering gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals and later succumbed to their injuries and pronounced dead. One victim was a male in his twenties and the other victim was a male believed to be in his fifties.
