29th Annual Jamaica Plain Artists Open Studios This Weekend

This weekend is the 29th Annual Jamaica Plain Open Studios, a free event for people to check out great artists from around the area. Organized by the Jamaica Plain Arts Council (JPAC), the event is from 11 am to 6 pm, on both Saturday on Sunday. Open Studios will showcase the work of more than 100 artists at 40-plus sites across the neighborhood -- some right from the artists’ creative spaces, to the outside of Jameson & Thompson Picture Framers in Bartlett Square, to the schoolyard at the historic Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts. There will be art from ironworkers, jewelers, painters, potters, printmakers, quilt-makers, sculptors, woodcarvers and more. Former JPAC board member and current volunteer Lisa Goren, a Hyde Park-based watercolorist, has participated in JPOS for more than a decade, and will be sharing her paintings based on her travels to Alaska, Antarctica, Iceland and near the North Pole.

Call for Black Lives Matter Art by Jamaica Plain Arts Council; Open Studios Cancelled

The Jamaica Plain Art Council has extended its call for Black Lives Matter art. "As a visual arts organization, we want to help make your voices heard (seen) through art," said a JPAC newsletter. "We are offering artists a chance to submit pieces that represent, reflect upon and/or support the Black Live Matter cause and oppose racial injustice in all forms." Selected work with the artist's short statement will be highlighted on JPAC's social media platforms. Art can be submitted by sending your image along with a brief statement (3-5 sentences) and the heading "JPAC BLM Justice for All" to coordinator@jpopenstudios.com. Submissions are requested by August 1, but will be accepted after that date.

Small Works Fundraiser ‘Art on Tap’ Supporting JP Open Studios on March 10

There will be art, artists, beer and more art at the Jamaica Plain Arts Council Small Works Art on Tap fundraiser on March 10. The fundraiser is a project of the Jamaica Plain Arts Council (JPAC) and will feature small original art pieces from Jamaica Plain Open Studios (JPOS) artists. Works will be for sale at an affordable range of $20 to $50ish. This is a good event to check out local artists' work, meet up with friends, meet local artists, and support a good local art event. And admission is only $5 at the door with free food, and a cash bar.
