"The Public Service Committee will hold its October 2014 monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 7 at 7:00pm at Curtis Hall, 20 South Street. On the agenda will be a petition of Caffe Nero Americas, Inc., doing business as "Caffè Nero", at 733 Centre Street for a 7-Day Common Victualler License from 7:00am to 9:00pm, with Jason Souza as manager. (Please note that the Zoning Committee will also be considering a request for take-out for this business at their October 1 meeting.)"

Neighborhood Group Rejects City Realty Project in Forest Hills

After hearing horror stories from City Realty tenants, a JP advisory board unanimously denied approval to a project the company aims to build at 38-42 Hyde Park Ave. The Brighton-based real estate company would like to tear down a former martial arts studio and put a three-story mixed-use building in its place. Negotiations with Forest Hills neighbors had made progress, according to the Gazette. But that was before City Realty began facing significant push-back on two separate properties across the neighborhood in Egleston Square. There, the owners of seven local businesses have been given eviction notices.

A neighborhood advisory group has chosen 10 residents to serve on a committee to address rapid development in Forest Hills. The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council, an elected advisory board, created an ad-hoc committee on Forest Hills Construction and Development Projects. One tally by longtime resident Bernard Doherty puts the number of new and potential housing units to be built through 2018 at 1,074. In addition to members of the council who serve on it, residents were asked to join the effort. [selfie]

During the Neighborhood Council's last full meeting, more than 20 residents turned out to express interest in the Forest Hills committee.

Aims of the committee are:

Seek that the residents and businesses of the Forest Hills community are aware and informed of the magnitude of the construction projects going forward in their neighborhood;
Seeking that the elected officials representing the Forest Hills area are aware of, and knowledgeable about, the existing and proposed construction projects, their time lines and their potential impacts on the community;
Making sure that the relevant state and city departments and agencies responsible for, or having jurisdiction over, these projects are reviewing the project plans and communicating and coordinating with each other
Seeking that satisfactory procedures are in places to address problems and issues as they arise; and,
Seeking that a regular community input process be established to address concerns of the residents and businesses of the Forest Hills community.

Two New Faces Added to JP Neighborhood Council

The (usually) elected body of residents who advise downtown about what JP wants added Kristy Nardone and Dana Gonsalves. The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council is back to full strength now that vacancies that are usually filled by election have newly appointed members. Dana Gonsalves, maintenance superintendent for the JP Neighborhood Development Corp.'s Brewery Development, rejoined the council in late March. "I felt I helped the community during my last run," Gonsalves said at the time. In addition to his work at The Brewery, Gonsalves also is the live-in manager for the single room occupancy development at 35 Creighton St.
