Drummey is a Jamaica Plain resident and Librarian of the Massachusetts Historical Society where the Greenough family papers are housed. The lecture was originally held at the Loring-Greenough House, 12 South Street, and was sponsored by the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club and the Jamaica Plain Historical Society. Albino Mbie

Albino Mbie makes music that aims to combine disparate entities into an organic whole while retaining their unique, undiluted flavors -- the music of his native Mozambique, coupled with his experiences living in the US and traveling to many other places in the world, overlap pleasingly to treat the audience ear with an original sound of Afro-pop meets Moz-Jazz. Imbued with a worldly vibe, Mbie’s incredibly approachable music exudes sophistication, and yet simplicity. More information Albinombie.com

Sunday Afternoon Concert – Rob Flax

Rob Flax

Rob Flax plays many instruments and can make music out of anything. On his #OneManBandTour he travels with a violin and electronics, looping with precision and humor. Multi-instrumentalist Rob Flax describes his music in a concise way: “I play things with strings, I hit stuff, and I sing.” Behind this simple tag line lies a rich depth of genre-bending, from classical and jazz violin to bluegrass fiddle, to blues and rock influences, and beyond. In his “One Man Band” shows, Rob uses a looper pedal and other effects to transform his violin into an entire symphony of sounds. Rob is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory, where he received his master’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation, and he currently lives in Boston.

UPDATE: JP Local First Fair Postponed to June 27

UPDATE: The JP Local First Fair has been postponed to June 27 due to inclement weather. There are more than 165 independent businesses in Jamaica Plain and dozens of them will be participating in the 3rd Annual JP Local First Fair. During the free fair you'll have the chance to learn more about locally-owned businesses and nonprofits that will have tables set up with info, products and services. In the past, you've been able to sample food and products, get free massages, learn about volunteering and more. "One of the many remarkable things about our community is its great diversity of local and independent businesses and non profits," said David Warner, Chair of the Steering Committee for JP Local First, and owner of City Feed and Supply, adding that the fair is a great opportunity to make a new connection with a business you may not have known about already.
