Rep. Malia, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America Meet to Discuss Gun Control Legislation

State Rep. Liz Malia and Jamaica Plain members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America recently met to discuss current Massachusetts legislation to prevent gun tragedies. They specifically discussed House Bill 3610, which would allow family and law enforcement officials to initiate a process to temporarily remove guns from individuals who demonstrate that they post a significant risk of doing harm to themselves or others. The legislation would create a means for concerned family members to petition the court directly for a civil order, an extreme risk protective order (ERPO) to temporarily restrict access to firearms from individuals when they pose a serious danger to themselves or others, according to a press release. Malia met with the group in late March. The bill was filed by state Rep. Marjorie Decker, D-Cambridge, in response to the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
