Jamaica Plain resident Summer L. Williams is set to direct New Repertory Theatre's upcoming production of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. Lady Day At Emerson’s Bar and Grill is a biographical play with iconic music by Lanie Robertson. The show runs from March 28 through April 19, 2020. It’s 1959 in a bar in South Philadelphia for one of Billie Holiday’s final performances before her untimely death. At an intimate evening with Billie and her pianist, Holiday’s most famous songs are interlaced with reminiscences from her life, told with her unique, salty humor.

Jamaica Plain resident Marge Dunn will perform in New Repertory Theatre's upcoming production of Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. With Galt MacDermot’s groundbreaking music and the show’s progressive themes, Hair revolutionized musical theater as Broadway’s first rock musical in 1968. Emerging from the hippie counter-culture of the 1960s, James Rado and Gerome Ragni’s story shows a tribe’s journey toward finding their voices in a time of political upheaval, and their use of sex and drugs to evade reality. Featuring the smash hits Aquarius and Let the Sunshine In, this award-winning show is certain to be a nostalgic and groovy experience. Marge Dunn is playing Sheila in her return to New Repertory Theatre after her role as Chris in Cardboard Piano.

Jamaica Plain Residents Star in New England World Premiere at New Repertory Theatre

Jamaica Plain residents Marge Dunn and Michael Ofori will star in the New England premiere of "Cardboard Piano" at New Repertory Theatre. Written by the in-demand, young playwright Hansol Jung, "Cardboard Piano" is a riveting new drama that follows a love story between two young women, set against an escalating civil war in Uganda. The show is running from March 23 to April 14. Marge Dunn is making her New Repertory Theatre debut with this production of "Cardboard Piano" and will be playing Chris. Her other recent credits include "It’s a Wonderful Life" and "Miss Holmes" at the Greater Boston Stage Company; "Dog Act" for which she received an IRNE nomination at Theatre on Fire; "Three Sisters" for which she also received an IRNE nomination and more at the Wellesley Repertory Theatre. She was in "Macbeth" at the Brown Box Theatre Project; "The Draft" at Hibernian Hall; "Romeo and Juliet" and "Much Ado About Nothing" at the Boston Theater Company.
