Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Jamaica Plain

Jamaica Plain and the rest of Suffolk County are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. A previous notice from the Weather Service said there's a chance for urban flooding, heavy rain and lightning, even hail or possibly a tornado.

Brrr. Wind Chill of 18 Below Possible Friday Morning

The National Weather Service warns of dangerous cold in Jamaica Plain starting at 3 a.m. Friday. It issued an advisory to expect wind chills of -18 and temperatures of zero. That's cold even by our recent standards. The advisory runs from 3-10 a.m. Friday. The Jamaica Plain-based MSPCA reminds us that the cold can be dangerous for pets.

Urban Flood Advisory Issued

The National Weather Service says Suffolk County, including Jamaica Plain, should expect urban flooding as a major storm moves through New England. Winds are expected to gust to 50 MPH. The flood advisory runs until 4 p.m. Tuesday. The heaviest rain is expected in Boston from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday. In addition to the cold rain, batten down for high winds.
