Salmagundi Closed Due to Flooding, Launches Online Fundraiser

Salmagundi, Jamaica Plain's beloved hattery and more store, will be closed for several weeks due to flooding that rained down through the roof, ruining merchandise. The store was flooded on February 2, and has since launched its own GoFundMe fundraiser to help them reopen. "We opened the door to find a flooded floor and water raining through the ceiling like a sieve. We quickly scattered bins and buckets to contain the gallons of water pouring in. We ran downstairs to find racks of merchandise soaked; the water had made its way through the floor of our shop to our finished stockroom.

End...only to discover a bit of Jamaica Plain: Salmagundi for Ladies and Gents at 61 Salem St. Long a fixture at 765 Centre Street, Salmagundi opened on Salem Street in the fall of 2014. Co-owner Jessen Fitzpatrick  was on duty and he told Jamaica Plain News that "we officially moved in August but it took us a while to get the same vibe at this new location that we have in JP. We rotate the sales staff from JP to keep that vibe too," like Rachel Buffer, whom the Jamaica Plain News chatted with at the flagship Centre Street shop. The store is in a perfect location on the edge of the North End, a few steps from the Greenway and a straight line from the bustling new Boston Public Market (a must see!) and the Haymarket Orange Line station; but even more than that it's located next to Lulu's Ice Cream. (almost as good as JP Licks)
