Good morning, neighbors. Here's your Morning Memo for all things Jamaica Plain for Tuesday, Feb. 10:
Economy Plumbing Meeting Still On: UPDATE: Organizers have postponed this meeting because the venue was not open and the difficulty of moving around in the snow. ~~~~~
As of late Monday, organizers of Tuesday’s community meeting about a huge proposed development centered on what is now Economy Plumbing told us it was still scheduled to take place. Egleston Square Neighborhood Association and Egleston Square Main Street are cohosting the meeting, which concerns 3200 Washington St.
UPDATE: Rail service is also cancelled all day Tuesday. Only buses will run, and those will be on snow routes. ~~~~~
Bowing to the impact of continued snow and cold, the MBTA announced it would shut down all subway lines, trolleys and commuter rail at 7 p.m. Monday. The shutdown comes on a day the T tried to eke through offering a reduced schedule. The Orange Line had planned bus replacement service starting at 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. from Sullivan to Oak Grove.
Here's our ongoing list of what's open and closed:

Earlier this month, blocked and snowed-in hydrants delayed firefighters responding to what turned out to be a fatal fire in Revere. On Sunday, residents spotted firefighters from Jamaica Plain digging out hydrants — a job safety officials say should be done by residents and businesses. A fire truck carries between 500 and 750 gallons of water, said Steve MacDonald, spokesperson for the Boston Fire Department.
On Sunday, as a slow-moving storm is expected to dump up to 20 inches more snow on the city, Mayor Marty Walsh announced public schools would be closed both Monday and Tuesday. Boston public schools will be closed Monday (2/9) and Tuesday (2/10) due to snow. #BOSnow #alert— City of Boston (@NotifyBoston) February 8, 2015
If you're a parent with a child 7 or older, Boston Centers for Youth and Families will be open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. In JP, we have community centers at 20 South St. and 200 Heath St.
Mayor Marty Walsh declared a snow emergency and parking ban starting at 4 p.m. Sunday. Ticketing for cars left on emergency arteries begins at 6 p.m.
A snow emergency and parking ban will go into effect at 4pm today. Ticketing and towing will begin at 6pm. #BOSnow #alert

The parking ban applies to many of Jamaica Plain's larger streets. Walsh admitted in a Sunday press conference that it's hard to find a place to park once you do move your car.

As a news site, we are of course in the business of passing along all the hassles these snow storms bring. But it's important to remember that the snow can actually be a source of enjoyment. We're lucky in Jamaica Plain to have spaces like the Arboretum and Forest Hills Cemetery where you can quickly get away from fights over space savers, hours of shoveling punctuated by plows undoing your work and other indignities of big snow in a tightly-packed city. Speaking personally, I certainly felt better after a nice walk in the Arboretum. Here are some photos along those lines.
A slow-motion snow event has begun and could whack already snow-burdened JP streets with up to 16 more inches of this stuff. The National Weather Service predicts 8-12 inches for the area including JP in its latest winter storm watch
The Weather Service says light snow showers and flurries (which have already begun) will develop through the afternoon. The snow will get steadier late Saturday. Moderate to heavy snow is predicted for Sunday night. Meanwhile, over at WHDH, the TV station is putting Boston in a band where 14 to 20 inches are expected by Tuesday.

JP's Hillary Corbett saw something she'd never seen before (and I've never seen before) — a space saver in a city-owned lot spot. The deck chair was laying claim to a spot in the city's 490-498 Centre St. lot across the street from the Curley School. It's one of the lots the city (theoretically) makes available during snow emergencies.
