Boston Police Commissioner Defends Meeting with AG Barr

U.S. Attorney General William Barr was in Boston on Thursday and met with Boston Police Commissioner William Gross. That meeting sparked criticism from many elected officials, and led to Gross defending why he met with the controversial head of the Department of Justice. The U.S. Department of Justice tweeted out a photo of Barr and Gross shoulder-to-shoulder, and not wearing masks together in Boston. Supposedly it was the first time a sitting U.S. Attorney General had visited the Boston Police Department. As chief legal counsel to the president, Barr has most recently been widely condemned for ordering peaceful protestors to be teargassed in Washington D.C. to clear the way for President Trump to walk where the protestors were occupying so he could do a photo op.

One Person Dead After Tense Stand-off on Wyman Street

One man is dead after a tense stand-off on Saturday night at a bed and breakfast on Wyman Street. At this time it is not clear whether the man was killed by police, or if he took his own life, as it is an active investigation, said Boston Police Commissioner William Gross at the scene on Saturday night. BPD responded to a report of a domestic incident at 21 Wyman Street around 10:01 pm, said Gross. Upon arrival, police saw a man outside of the location, who ran into the building and fired a handgun at police. It is not known at this time what connection, if any, the man had to the location.

National Night Out in Jamaica Plain on August 6th

Mayor Marty Walsh, Boston Police, newly-appointed Boston Police Commissioner William Gross, community groups and residents will come together for National Night Out at the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments on August 6. There will be free kids' activities, food, entertainment, awards for Boston's crime watch groups and more. This event is taking place from 4 to 8 pm at 90 Bickford St., Jamaica Plain. National Night Out started in 1984 by bringing civic groups, community organizations, police, residents and more together. More than 2.5 million people participated in the first National Night Out.  Now more than 38 million participate annually.

Residents, Cops Thanked for Their Community Work at National Night Out

The annual National Night Out celebration in Egleston Square for 2015 honored people who don't get recognized or thanked enough for what they do for the community...both those in uniform and as well as neighborhood folks. Plenty of dignitaries were on hand. Mayor Marty Walsh and Police Commissioner William Evans joined the celebration - as well as City Councilor Matt O"Malley, State Representatives Jeffrey Sánchez and Liz Malia, District Attorney Dan Conley and Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins.  All spent more than an hour with residents and civic leaders

Murder Charge Made in Death of Woman Who Worked With Children in JP

Prosecutors added a murder charge to gun charges already filed in the killing of Dawnn Jaffier. The 26-year-old woman, who worked at JP's Hennigan School as part of the Boys & Girls Club, died after being shot Saturday at a parade in Dorchester. On Monday, officials charged Keith Williams, 18, of Boston, with her shooting death. Jaffier was struck in the head, her father told media. She was at the corner of Blue Hill Avenue and Charlotte Street watching the J'ouvert Parade, which is part of the day-long Caribbean Carnival.
