Come this spring, a Montessori school is expected to start providing tours to its under renovation School Street property.
Higher Ground Education is a Montessori school network that operates more than 100 schools throughout the country, and will lease the building at 100 School St. from Murphy Real Estate. Higher Ground operate schools for children 0 to 14, for infants, toddlers, kindergarteners, and elementary school, according to the company's website.
The exact date of when the school will open has not been determined.
A Murphy Real Estate rep told the Egleston Square Neighborhood Association (ESNA) via email that someone from the company will reach out to coordinate the removal and preserving of the murals along the outside back wall that abuts the Peace Garden.
During ESNA's November meeting, a Higher Ground Education rep said that the school will have about 100 to 115 students at the location. He was told that at that time there was construction fencing blocking the sidewalk that provided an obstacle for students walking to and from the Mendell School and the Egleston YMCA. Less than two weeks later, the construction fence was removed providing access.
