Jamaica Plain Centre/South Main Streets' First Thursday ArtWalk will include a new wrinkle to the popular event. A new interactive mobile app is being used to offer scavenger hunts, quizzes and will "ping" you when you walk past a participating business.
During the First Thursday ArtWalk businesses open up (often after regular hours), inviting everyone to check out local art on display. The artists are often onsite and happy to speak with you about their work, which is often for sale. Businesses sometimes offer light appetizers and drinks.
This is the first time the StriveOn app is being used for First Thursday, but it won't be the last. It also offers video, audio, photos, review and more. To download the app and see what it's all about, go to www.striveon.io or the Apple and Android app stores.
But don't worry if you don't have a smartphone or don't want to download it because First Thursday ArtWalk maps will still be printed and available at the JP Branch Library and City Feed & Supply.
JPCSMS is also hosting a StriveOn Launch Party on the lawn of First Baptist Church from noon to 4 pm on Sept. 29. The app will feature a scavenger hunt for users to learn more about the Centre/South streets district. There will also be games, drinks, food and more.
This Thursday's Screen on the Green movie will be "Black Panther"! The movie starts at 7 pm and it's free. So bring a blanket or chairs to sit on, grab some grub from the food trucks or bring your own picnic dinner, and enjoy the movie.
