Ethiopian cuisine, delicious baked desserts, corny bread, locally brewed beer and stilt walkers were all part of the 23rd Annual Taste of Jamaica Plain on Thursday night.

Blue Nile owner Yosef Haile cheerfully hands out a plate of food.

Held at Annunciation Hall on the VFW Parkway for the first time, the annual event serves as fundraiser for JP nonprofit Ecumenical Social Action Committee (ESAC),  and particularly its senior home programs and youth opportunity collaborative.

Children (young and old) enjoyed the make-your-own cupcake station from Fiore's Bakery.

Along with more than 20 restaurants, personal chefs, food businesses, there was a cash bar with beer and wine, raffle tickets being sold, a silent auction and live music.

A sampling of numerous offerings from participating businesses.

Blue Frog Bakery's Brad Brown served a rum-soaked pumpkin cake with chocolate cream and caramel sugar.

Youth from Spontaneous Celebrations entertained the crowd by stilt-walking around the Taste of Jamaica Plain.

The Corny Bread served up delicious corny bread (and offering corny jokes, too!).

The chefs from Sophia Snow Place served beef short ribs on a bed of potato puree and a garnished with a red wine reduction demi-glace.

Turtle Swamp Brewing offered several varieties of tasty beer.

The audience was treated to live music by Dozer and The Homewreckers throughout the event.

Sam's Spot Catering offered mac and cheese with honey mustard chicken.
