The project is estimated to cost $30.6 million in total to complete, according to a city press release, and has now reached its public fundraising goal. MOOYAH Burgers to Pitch Neighborhood Group on Jackson Square Restaurant

A Texas-based burger and shake chain will make its case to the neighborhood next week to open an outpost of its fast-casual concept in Jackson Square. MOOYAH Bugers, Fries & Shakes seeks to open at 225 Centre St. That's the large building right next to the Jackson Square T where it meets Columbus Avenue. The company, headquartered in Dallas, had originally planned to open its JP restaurant in April or May. MOOYAH representatives are scheduled to appear at the Tuesday, June 6 meeting of the JP Neighborhood Council's Public Service Committee.

BPDA Board Approves Plans to Double Size, Add Turf Field at Jackson Square Rec Center

The Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) board approved new plans for a proposed Jackson Square Recreational Center that vastly increases the size of the center and adds an additional floor. The BPDA board approved plans on March 17 that call for a 75,000 square foot recreation center at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Ritchie Street across the street from the Jackson Square MBTA Station in Jamaica Plain. Earlier plans had the project at 34,000 square feet, said BPDA spokesperson Bonnie McGilpin. The size increase is due to an the addition of another floor to the project. The recreation center would be a three-story multi-use indoor space with an ice rink on the first floor 10 months of the year, with a mezzanine level (regarded as the second floor) that includes bleacher seating for the ice rink.

Rally to Demand Promised Jackson Square Rec Center on Tuesday

Youth of Jamaica Plain and Roxbury were promised a major recreation center in Jackson Square 16 years ago by the state during the Jackson Square redevelopment project. After many years of waiting, the youth leaders of the Hyde Square Task Force will be holding the "Where is the Love for Urban Youth?" rally on Tuesday. The rally and press conference is being held on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 4:30 pm at the Youth Community Development Center (behind the former Blessed Sacrament Church).

A new burger-and-fries place is coming to JP this spring, as Texas-based MOOYAH will be opening its first Boston restaurant in Jackson Square. "We are fresh, never-frozen burgers, grilled or fried chicken salads, sweet potato fries, hand-cut French fries, milkshakes, turkey burgers, lean green options and more," said Jay Hummer, Development Agent for MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes. The new restaurant will open at the corner of Columbus Avenue and Centre Street in Jackson Square near the MBTA station. Hummer said he hoped to open the restaurant in April or May. MOOYAH has about 100 restaurants throughout the country and is expanding in New England, Hummer told Jamaica Plain News. There are three restaurants in Connecticut, one currently open in Northborough, Mass., and two more to come in Berlin and Billerica, according to the company's website.
