Can you believe it'll be the *fifth* annual Jamaica Plain Music Festival on Saturday? To think such a short time ago it was an adorable little albino squirrel baby, no bigger than your palm... We'll be posting our annual Guide to the Jamaica Plain Music Festival soon. Meanwhile, let's thank the Department of Transportation for doing its part to get the word out with a billboard along the Jamaicaway (video courtesy of the Festival's Facebook page). The free event runs noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at Pinebank Field by the Pond.
Rick Berlin "I hate everything but you" from Warren Farm Films on Vimeo. JP rocker Rick Berlin has influenced a lot of other musicians. In Tuesday's Herald, Amanda Palmer wrote a mash note to hearing Berlin's "I Hate Everything But You." I don’t remember where I first saw Rick Berlin. But if memory isn’t failing too hard, it was at Jacque’s Cabaret, and it was part of my early rock and roll education.
Yes, it's the famous Albino Squirrel of Jamaica Pond. Interrobang Letterpress captured this photo of the little guy back in 2008. He (or she?) has become an iconic figure: the albino squirrel of Jamaica Pond. Interrobang Press shared this 2008 photo of the famous rodent to the Jamaica Plain News Photo Pool on Flickr. The secret squirrel has entered local logo lore as the symbol of the Jamaica Plain Music Festival.
The JP Music Festival is now accepting applications from musicians to perform at our 5th annual festival on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 at Pinebank Field (at Jamaicaway and Perkins Street) from 12-7 PM! The JP Music Festival is a nonprofit festival organized by a group of volunteers and JP residents to give Jamaica Plain musicians the opportunity to perform in front of thousands of attendees and have your music heard by lots of potential new fans. We welcome music in every genre and through the years we have featured Afrobeat, Americana, Baroque, classical, country, dance, folk, funk, gospel, hip-hop, jazz, Latin, metal, Mexican, pop, punk, rock, rock, ska, soul, and everything in between! It's a great day of amazing music, community, and good times.
